A quartet hailing from Withim, Essex known as Wax Colour, have recently brought us an intoxicating EP called DIY. Released on February 3, the band have put in well over a year of hard work and ambition; crafting something epic. They released it on their BandCamp where you can purchase a physical copy or download it for free.
The EP contains nine tracks built of raging riffs, contagious melodies, and raw emotion. It begins with their latest release, Crude, a song with throbbing bass and dynamic energy. Its soaring tempo is enough to capture you then and there. The third track Runaway Baby takes on a more mellow tone which flows beside catchy vocals to bring you a well-composed sound. It offers an anthemic guitar solo that bleeds of passion and commitment, and is truly something you must hear.
Moving throughout DIY, you pass a few untitled tracks that offer a seamless intermission between these brilliant hits. Swim, track seven, is a harmonically-rich number with alluring vocals and an aching lyrical journey. It’s definitely a favorite due to the croon of Charl’s vocals and its polished sound. The EP closes with an infectious thrill-ride known as Sugar, and it’s the perfect way to end this work of art. Its tender sound and clever layers finish the puzzle.
Overall, DIY is a collage of variety and masterpiece. It takes you on a journey of hard work and endless dedication that you’re sure to enjoy. Make sure to catch Wax Colour at a show near you, and download DIY here.
